“As a travel agent, I am very well traveled, I have lost count of the amount of hotels and resorts I have visited. Nothing, in my near 20 years of experience, has been as outstanding as the two resorts I have just stayed in. Sandals Resorts lead the way with luxury, all inclusive. The entire experience was incredible. Sandals Resorts are a honeymoon dream come true” – Rebbeca Kingston
As Dress in Love’s honeymoon expert, it makes sense for me to try out these beautiful destinations before I recommend them to our ‘In Love’ brides.
With this particular trip overseas, I hit the jackpot, a twin-centre honeymoon staying at the worlds most romantic resort – Sandals Grande Antigua, then hopping over to stunning Barbados and staying at the new Sandals Barbados.
I love my job!
Here is what you need to know about Sandals Grande Antigua…
Voted the “World’s Most Romantic Resort” year after year, Sandals Grande Antigua is located on Antigua’s best and most famous beach, Dickenson Bay. Its a beautiful stretch of soft sand that is wrapped by palm covered hills and welcomes in the gentle waves of the crystal clear Caribbean sea.
As with all Sandals Resorts this resort is luxury all inclusive, all of the time – no time limits, no ifs, no buts.
When I say Luxury included I mean food, drink and facilities of the highest level – Premium brands such as Jack Daniels, Smirnoff, Baileys, Bombay, I mean food such as lobster, steak, sushi, I mean Newton dive boats at a cost of £500,000 each, I mean full size spa products in your suite – all this included!
The main pool was my favourite spot during the day, it is just steps away from the beach, has several bars close by including the pool swim-up bar. You can shade in a gorgeous private cabana or lounge on a plush day bed and soak up the rays of the hot Caribbean sun.
Music gently played, the beautiful pool twinkled in the sunlight and I was completely mesmerized by the sheer beauty of this place.
Being the Eastern Caribbeans largest zero-entry pool there is lots of space.
Space is a key factor to this resort, it is big and beautiful, you feel you are in an exclusive, very luxurious, village as opposed to a hotel. The resort is spread over two unique areas, the all suite, 6 star, Mediterranean Village and the tropical, beach front, Caribbean Grove.
I preferred the latter, I am not sure if it is because being a Brit I am done with the Mediterranean ambiance or the fact that I love nature, the ocean and the beach but the Caribbean Grove was my area of choice. I loved the laid back, slowed down vibes, the light and fresh decor and wandering through the high-rise free grounds.
Sun-downers bar is located in the Caribbean Grove, this is the place to be at dusk, the sunset views over the ocean are just incredible, along with a cocktail in hand made just the way you like it.
When it comes to picking your suite, the Love Nest Suites are just incredible!
With stunning views from a private patio complete with pool sanctuary and whirlpool. The bedroom boasts a four-poster, king-size bed and overlooks the private pool deck. The en-suite bathroom has a Roman whirlpool tub, separate walk-in rain shower. Plus you enjoy the services of a personal butler and 24-hour room service.
Another great point about Sandals Resorts is that they have many different room categories to suit all tastes, suit all needs and all budgets.
I was very impressed with the Caribbean Honeymoon Beachfront Grande Luxe Club Level Room – the decor was beautiful, it was spacious, it had ocean views and overlooked a private pool shared by only the few guests staying in theses suites. Being on the Caribbean half of the resort these rooms are tucked away nicely between the beach and the lush flora and fauna of this beautiful island.
When it came to food, I did not hold back!
So much choice, all so delicious and beautifully presented. I ate at the Italian restaurant – they have a wonderful appetizer buffet, all the Italian treats you can think of including seafood salad, deep fried calamari, garlic bread and antipasti.
Bear foot by the sea literally describes itself in the name, I was barefoot on the beach, overlooking the Caribbean sea and was served up fresh seafood, I enjoyed the surf & turf complete with lobster and steak!
For breakfast I enjoyed Eleanors, another cracking location on the sea front, to see these hues of turquoise in the ocean at this time of day was a delight. With so much to choose from on the breakfast menu it is probably easier to say I had a ‘full’ English breakfast.
I seemed to start every evening in the English pub the Drunken Duck. This is the entertainment hot-spot in the evening, I took part in some reggae dancing and a little karaoke, that is as wild as it gets here, after all this resort is made for romance.
Candle lit dinners for two on the beach, private dinning on suite balconies, Champagne under the stars and fire pit cuddles after dark are what this resort does best at night time.
After all the snuggles and delicious food if you fancy a bit of activity then, once again, you are spoiled for choice.
A sailing boat was as adventurous as it got for me, as part of the all inclusive all land and water sports are complimentary. If you want to head out of the resort and see more of the island then head over to the Island Routes team.
Island Routes are based in all Sandals Resorts, now anyone can claim to offer an authentic experience of these islands but Island Routes excursions are led by people born and bred on the island, and they can’t wait to share all the best spots and most exciting adventures with you!
I have tried, I have tested and I can confirm Sandals Grande Antigua is the worlds most romantic resort.
I can show you the perfect suite for your honeymoon, I can recommend how you plan your time and I can sure promise you will have the time of your lives.
